Question: I received a text message that says: “Tonight at 3:25 a.m. the moon will go around the Ka’abah and the sky will be light blue, this is the moment of acceptance of dua and this moment comes after every 100 thousand years, u can ask God whatever u want to ask, please send this to every one close to u so that they can know and benefit”. Is this true & does our dua get accepted at this time?
Answer:
Praise be to Allah.
Allah says “Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never prosper”. (Surah Nahl: 116)
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘He who attributes any falsehood to me, he should in fact find his abode in the Hell-Fire.’ (Muslim)
This text message is one of the many fabricated lies spread in our ummah by the evil forces. Many such messages are spread by some on facebook, whatsapp, blogs, other social networking applications, etc; who start these types of weird messages that are based on lies, deception and have no basis in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Spreading chaos in the ummah and keeping Muslims busy with such nonsense so that they stay away from real Islam and make them indulge in shirk is the main purpose of shaitan. And we make his task even more simpler by becoming his agents who pass such unverified & unauthentic information to others. May Allah protect us from such a shame.
Let us analyze this text message bit by bit.
1) “Tonight at 3:25 a.m. the moon will go around the Kaaba and the sky will be light blue…”
It is a well established fact that Moon revolves around the earth. The Moon orbits Earth in the opposite direction and completes one rotation in approximately 27.3 days. The Moon has a particular path set on which it revolves around the earth. It is also well established and has been seen several times that Moon crosses over the sky ABOVE THE KA’ABAH (not circumabulate it).
Head of Space Science Research Unit in Angkasa, Mohd. Fairos Asillam, while answering one such question in the year 2010, replied “The moon will just cross the sky over Ka’abah and will not circumambulate as claimed. As usual it will rise in the east and set in the west”. He said “a claim that the statement on the purported bizarre occurrence was issued by former Angkasa director-general Prof Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman was baseless and untrue”. Fairos said “the distance between the moon and the earth early tomorrow is 404,738km. He advised the public to check websites of credible organisations like Angkasa to avoid confusion on the matter. [source: Borneo post, Kuala Lumpur, Aug 19th 2011]
In fact, when any of you visit Makkah, see for yourself how moon passes above Ka’abah and does not circumabulate it. The direction of the path of moon itself does not allow it to act in any other way but pass above the kaaba. Moreover, if moons orbit was such that it would circumambulate the Ka’abah, then none of people who circumambulate the Ka’abah can see the moon because of the high rise structure of the Masjid ul Haram.
2) “…this is the moment of acceptance of dua…”
Where is the evidence for this in Qur’an and Sunnah? Dua is a type of ibadah (worship) and for anything to be included in Shari ibadah, evidence from Qur’an and Sunnah is compulsory. The default principle of sharia’h in matters of ibadah is “Al-aslu fil ibadah at-tahrim” or “Al aslu fil ibadah at-tawaqquf”. This means that by default we must NOT DO any action in ibadah except that which has been commanded in Qur’an and Sunnah. So any action that is being included in ibadah needs evidence. For example, if someone asks you to offer 3 rakahs of fardh in Fajr salah, then you do not just go ahead and offer it. Instead you will ask for evidence from Qur’an and Sunnah and if you don’t get one, then you refrain from that action.
Similarly, Dua is a type of ibadah. For any claims related to dua, one must provide evidence otherwise we throw it against the wall! This part of the text message “when moon circumabulates Ka’abah then is the moment of acceptance of dua” is utter rubbish which should be thrown on to the wall.
However, the third part of the night is the time when dua shall be accepted as confirmed by Qur’an & Sunnah. But this holds good on every night of our life unlike what the message claims. Look at the deception in this text message. The originator of this text message mixed two different things into one to make it appear realistic.
3) “…and this moment comes after every 100 thousand years…”
This part of the text message is where the truth pins down falsehood. This text message or similar one is being sent across during or around the month of august every year. This has been clearly recorded by internet websites where you see such messages on various websites and blogs with the post date “2010” or “2011” etc. Many people on internet claimed from around the world that this message has been going around for past 10 years. Every year the statement “it comes after so and so years” changes. In some messages it says “100 years”, in some it says “100 thousand years”, in some it says “1 million years” and so on. This clearly shows that this message is a fabricated lie!
and lastly, we see such messages having statements like “if you forward it to so many people your life will become better or your problems will get resolved or you will get luck tomorrow or this year ..etc”. These types of messages are clear SHIRK because it is only Allah who can give goodness as well as trials. Sending a text message to someone has no power to effect a person’s destiny. All power in this universe is only in the hands of Allah and not in forwarding a dodgy text, e-mail, etc.
Conclusion:
Allah says: “O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.” [Surah Hujurat: 6]
He says: “O you who believed! Fear Allah, and (always) say a word directed to the truth.” [Surah Ahzab: 79]
Therefore, O Muslims! Fear Allah and fear for your akhirah and speak only that which you are certain of. Do not forward such messages to others thus inviting wrath of Allah as he promised in the Qur’an. Always forward those Islamic messages that are backed up with evidences from Qur’an and Sunnah.
May Allah protect us from plots of Shaitan and hence from getting into innovations in deen! Ameen.
Wallahualam!
Abu Isaam Imran Ali.
jazakallah for the guidance and clarification. Thanks for indicating the misconception prevailed in Muslim ummah.
Jazak’Allah Khaira Brother for the guidance and clarification. Thanks for indicating the misconception prevalent in certain sections of the Muslim ummah
Jazakallah khaerah I received same message and I see a clear sign of shirk but i only need to confirm
It is the actual light reflected by the moon that circumambulates the kaha. Not the moon itself.
so the moon is passing over the ka’abah thats all?
Many unqualified & ignorant Muslims r sending messages in the name of Islam that has no authority from Quran & Hadith. We ve to b very careful when reading them . Some even can b shirk as the author says. So plz b very careful.
Jazak Allah khayran katheeran jiddan , ya Sheiqh! May Allah (SWT) increase your wisdom for your own benefit and for the benefit of the entire Ummah! Ameen!
