Question: “Is Zakat ul fitr to be paid for the unborn baby (pregnant lady) also?”
Answer: Praise be to Allah!
Zakat al-fitr is obligatory for every Muslim, who must pay on his own behalf and on behalf of those who are dependents under him (on whose maintenance he is obliged to pay).
As for paying it for the unborn, the baby in the womb, according to the scholarly consensus, no zakaah is required on his or her behalf. But if you give it then there is nothing wrong with it.
The standing committee (9/366) was asked a similar question and they replied:
It is mustahabb to pay it because of what Uthmaan (may Allah be pleased with him) did, but it is not obligatory because there is no evidence to that effect. End Quote.
